In recent news, a Casey Neistat fundraiser video was just released in order to help fundraise for famine in Somalia. He leveraged his social following and YouTube subscribers to raise funds to help fix the humanitarian crisis in Somalia that is affecting over six million people worldwide. Jerome Jarre, another social media fanatic, tweeted a video explaining the crisis in Somalia and how his fan following could help the people in Somalia out. This video was shared, retweeted, and talked about by other famous people such as Ben Stiller, Casey Neistat, and Colin Kaepernick. Jerome’s idea was to create a buzz around the video where in he discussed the idea of potentially raising one million dollars and contacting Turkish Airlines to help fly out the supplies to Somalia.

After the video began trending, and becoming bigger than just the stars who promoted it, Casey Neistat took on the task with Jerome to begin the fund raising process. They contacted companies to help donate food and money to the cause, and also reached out to Turkish Airlines to help get the supplies to where it’s needed. Mind you, Turkish Airlines is the only airline that has flights connecting to Somalia. The airline gladly accepted the challenge after Jerome called and talked to an official Turkish Airlines representative. The representative allowed the Jerome to use a cargo plane flying from Istanbul to Somalia to transport the goods. The cargo plane will be filled with 60 tons of food and relief for the people who the famine has devastated. The airline also agreed to contribute another 140 tons of space in their other planes to bring relief to Somalia.
It’s crazy how a simple tweet can manifest itself into a movement that has inspired thousands of people to donate significant amounts of their money to help others. Since the Casey Neistat fundraiser video went live on his YouTube channel about 8 hours ago, his fan following has already raised over $700k for the cause. We will most likely see the fundraiser top a million dollars in the next day or so. This is an example of people using their fame in a selfless way to help others in need. Let’s take a minute and thank these social media influencers for their good deeds!
